inevitability and what to do with it / edlyn’s green tomato and onion pakoras

October 27, 2016 By Danielle 2 Comments

hello dear friend, you’re back again.

the trees are falling all around us, spinning backwards and spiraling downwards. it is dark in the morning and dark in the evening. i’ve reserved a quantity of my emotions for these fleeting moments of the year. we’ve been breaking down parts of the garden, piece by piece. slowly letting go of the roots that nourished us over the course. we had the threat of frost a couple of weeks ago – a threat that happened into reality (although we haven’t frosted again since) – and on the days leading up to it we caressed the final branches of our tomato plants. lanky, many-armed creatures, thick and full from an entire season. thick and full of fruit. we’ve been swimming in green tomatoes (and consequently feeling ourselves smile harder, the deeper into autumn we traverse).

hey fall // tomato farro soup

October 1, 2016 By Danielle 12 Comments

we’ve got a sweetness to the air lately, a touch of chill on odd numbered nights, and an all-encompassing notion that autumn has unfolded her fawny limbs unto a monument of fallen leaves. this is my favorite time of year, these moments that separate the wake from the slumber. a final yawn traversing through and into the moment when winter comes. when it’s less subtle and more substantial. our breathing is measured now, slower, slightly mathematical but pacific.

August 11, 2016 By Danielle 8 Comments

august has so quickly revealed herself to us, as this past month has been chaos in the grandest of manners. a dive to the deepest corners, only to resurface and be greeted by the plush womb of late summer. it’s often hard to pick a favorite season – each so unforgivably ripe with unique details, simplicities, and sophistications. early spring is to late summer, as even the crops that greet us under several feet of snow are. romance is high and available with each nuance. thank you for accompanying me in my heady love story.  …

the center / lemon-blackberry clafoutis

July 13, 2016 By Danielle 2 Comments

the narrative of summer days is moody and heated, wrapping us up so much that we ignore any elemental jest and simply roll. of course we stand reminded that it’s always a short jaunt to crazy. but so far the high sun, thick clouds, and juicy berries have all been summer treats. at night, the sky is dusted with milk and stars. quietly (and not) we ponder our approach for the next day, wondering how to maintain vigor and tenacity, but balance it with patience and acceptance. lessons learned from embracing history, and better spent writing it….
